HEALTHY LIFE FOR HEALTH BREASTS
By Dr. Hiwot S. Mideksa
Eating Well
One important way to reduce your risk of breast cancer is to eat well. The American Cancer Society recommends eating more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains while eating less red meat (beef, pork,
and lamb), processed meat (bacon, sausage, luncheon meats, and hot dogs), and sweets. A healthy diet can also assist you in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Obesity and being overweight raise the risk of developing breast cancer. So maintain a healthy weight, stay hydrated and eat a healthy balanced
diet.
“YOUR DIET IS A BANK ACCOUNT. GOOD FOOD CHOICES ARE GOOD INVESTMENTS”. Bethenny Frankel

Exercise
There are studies suggesting that physical activity is associated with lower breast cancer risk, from these studies the risk of breast cancer was lower among the most physically active women. Observational studies also consistently link obesity at the time of breast cancer diagnosis to higher rates of breast
cancer recurrence, cancer-related mortality, and overall mortality.
Physical exercise may reduce breast cancer through influence hormonal such as reducing serum estrogen,
insulin and insulin like growth factors.
“THE BODY ACHIEVES WHAT THE MIND BELIEVES.”
Although there is no clear consensus on the “best” type of physical activity for breast cancer survivors, a variety of types of exercise have been shown to be beneficial, and moderate-intensity exercise has been shown to be safe.
