Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – March 21, 2026 — The Belisha Foundation successfully hosted a Cancer Awareness and Fundraising Dinner at Ethiopia Hotel No. 2, bringing together healthcare professionals, community leaders, supporters, and advocates committed to improving cancer awareness, prevention, and patient support in Ethiopia.
The program was officially opened by Dr. Mulatu Mebrate, Board Chairperson of The Belisha Foundation, who welcomed the distinguished guests and emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing the growing burden of cancer and supporting affected individuals and families.
The evening’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Metasebiya Damenu, Head of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College. Dr. Metasebiya highlighted the significant impact of cancer in Ethiopia and stressed the need for increased awareness, early detection, improved access to care, and stronger support systems for patients and their families.





Adding to the evening’s powerful message, Dr. Wongel Tsegaye, a senior oncologist, delivered a compelling call to action directed at government institutions, individuals, healthcare stakeholders, and civil society organizations. She emphasized that addressing the cancer challenge requires a coordinated effort from all sectors of society.
One of the most memorable moments of the program was the inspiring testimony shared by Sr. Zewdnesh, who courageously recounted her personal journey battling breast cancer. Her story of resilience, determination, and hope deeply touched attendees and served as a reminder of the human impact behind cancer statistics.
